DX400 Series Two-way Radio

The DX482 is a very compact radio, nice and easy to handle; it's got a really strong clip that will keep this radio in place wherever you decide to put it. As well as a few controls on the top of the radio there is the on and off and channel select and importantly a red emergency button. The screen on the DX485 is OLED and completely flicker free and exceptionally easy to read. Features:

The digital radios from Entel are available in licensed unlicensed free variants so if you don't need to have a licensed radio and ask our specialists at LRS UK about that, then the unlicensed version will be fine. Entel combined innovative technology, really unique to Entel and patented with globally accepted DMR standards and a robust IP68 submersible enclosure - this unit can stand two meters depth in water for up to four hours and be perfectly safe; it's a great feature of Entel radios who have produced the most exciting range of digital radios on the market; the dx400 series radios deliver a best-in-class performance range and the clarity on these units is excellent.

There are three models in this range; there's the entry model which is really best for simple push-to-talk communications within small groups such as calling a handful of other people or initiating emergency calls, tier one two and three; next is the mid tier model which is this one and that's as per the entry model plus this high contrast screen - it's a white on black OLED display; the unit features a navigation button, the internal menu's also have an extensive contact list so you can pre-code the contacts in to the radio, which allows a larger number of individual radio users and groups to be called and even multiple groups at once; the mid-tier model is also capable of displaying emergency caller ID and free format text messages as well as sending pro pre-formatted text messages to all the users which is a great feature and lastly there's the high tier model and that has all the features of the mid tier model plus the benefits of a full keypad and the real keypad makes a lot of difference to some people; the large keypad is ideal for sending free format text messages, for example a bit like a cell phone. For the ease of navigating channels and making contact lists and menus and more the larger keypad is a boon.

 

Advantages of Digital Technology

There is quite a strong move towards digital technology and that can be very confusing to some people that have never experienced digital radio as opposed to the analog - the older radios. So why digital? the reasons are very simple; first of all you get better coverage, you get significantly louder and clearer audio, it's crystal clear and that's a very important aspect for a lot of users; you get longer battery life and longer duty cycles so there is no worry about batteries; there's also far superior privacy on digital radio rather than analog - and analog radios where you've got 10 people on your one channel that can be a thing of the past. When it comes down to the digital equipment its far superior.

Digital use is actually split into three types of service for these types of radio; for all types of radios there is the short range license free to international or international connected networks which tier one for the different grades.

The entry level and the mid-tier and the high tier radios are generally used as follows: tier one is for commercial and best used with direct mode operation no repeaters allowed in that mode; it's fully approved for use within Europe and the UK and no license is required; tier two is used for small to medium-sized licensed systems radios and can be used in direct mode or with a repeater if preferred for significantly extended range; tier 2 repeaters can be networked to increase the coverage area further so you can cover massive range with these handsets and with repeaters and that's an important aspect to consider; tier three is for medium to large size licensed systems trunk repeaters as they're called are used giving automatic access to multiple channels which may be extended and networked to support very large numbers of radios over large areas, again an important consideration.

Channels

Entel have come up with this very clever idea about the channels on these radios using simplex; they split each channel into two delivering double the number of digital channels at no extra cost as you get a lot of radios these days where manufacturers are charging more for that sort of enhancement; if you're using a single analog channel the same channel in digital mode will yield two channels; Entel's tier one, the license free PMR 446 as it's also often called, provide 16 digital and eight analog channels and if you come up to the higher levels of these radios - mid tier and high tier you get substantially more; so the DX400 series is future-proofed with new features supplied as updated free software upgrades are applied - rather like most things today whether it be an Apple phone or even your computer; everything's getting updated and it all gets updated generally for free.

Entel's key features of the 400 series: it's compact and very rugged - you could literally throw this radio around; there are lots of accessories that can protect the radio extensively too; it's IP68 submersible which means two meters for up to four hours you - that's two meters deep in water which is excellent really; it's digital and analog modes so it's two types of radio both in one which is a again another great feature; it's got really superior battery life and that's one of the reasons that we like these here at Long Range Systems UK Ltd; it's got two watts of audio that is the loudest in its class and it is very loud and incredibly clear. Entel developed a feature called intelligent audio technology and that looks after background noise and makes the audio absolutely crystal clear. The Audio Accessory Optimisation or AAO comes in to its own if using earphones or other audio accessories.

Other Features

There is an extensive contact list that saves huge amounts of time so its possible to simply select and choose who you want or which group you want or whatever you want to do with it with a simple click and you're talking to them; another feature is Bluetooth version 4 class 2 and that's an optional feature but it can easily be purchased and add it - it's not expensive; that option allows Bluetooth type earpieces and similar devices and microphones to be used; there is a simple end user or customer programmer app that can be used, it's so easy to program the actual power output on this unit, it's usually one watt or five watts or four watt for vhf so uhf would be one or five watt and VHF.

Warranty

As far as warranties are concerned the dx400 series is concerned every Entel radio comes with a two year warranty and it's something Long Range Systems UK Ltd like to see. The failure rate is low on Entel radios and they are extremely reliable and extremely robust and that's a great thing; we don't like to see customers having to pay for things that might run out of warranty at 12 months on some radios and there would be a charge for some brands but with Entel you get the full two years. Entel radios are a great choice for most customers.
